Dr Fiona Philippi

Head of Researcher Development

I lead the University’s Researcher Development team within the Edinburgh Research Office, providing strategic leadership for researcher development provision at the University. As senior manager champion for the Concordat for the Career Development of Researchers, I oversee the University’s progress and reporting against its Concordat action plan. My role also includes contribution to the University Research Cultures Action Plan and membership of the Doctoral College Management Group.

I work across the institution to shape strategic approaches to researcher development and to contribute to wider work to strengthen the research environment.

My professional interests include the systems and structures that underpin effective researcher development, as well as the design and implementation of new initiatives and approaches. I have extensive experience in strategic leadership, programme development, institutional review, and the development of online learning. Externally, I am Co-Chair of the Universities Scotland Researcher Development and Cultures Group, an institutional representative on Researchers 14, a member of the external advisory group for the University of Graz, and an HR Excellence in Research Award (HREiR) reviewer.
