Briefing Session: career anxiety

What you'll do
In this Careers Briefing session we'll explore some of the sources of career fears, understand when and why anxiety can be useful (even good), and learn tactics for managing emotions in our career constructively, and for our benefit.

Who it's for
Research staff and teaching staff on fixed term contracts and academic staff on open-ended contracts with review dates (OERD).
This session is not open to academic staff on open-ended lecturing contracts.

Why attend
While imagining our future careers and selves can be exhilarating and satisfying, our imagining can be coloured by anxiety, doubt...and not infrequently, fear. This session offers space to explore those feelings, understand where they come from, and consider how they can be managed constructively as part of your career development.

After this session, you'll be able to:

  • recognise some of the sources of career fears
  • understand when and why anxiety can be useful
  • use tactics for managing emotions in your career constructively and for your benefit
