Giving an effective presentation

What you'll do
Have you ever seen a really great presenter and wondered how they do what they do?

Giving a great presentation is largely about practice, but there are many things that you can learn to do that will improve your stage presence and the way that you connect with a conference audience. This interactive workshop, for staff who are doing research, will focus on your needs and explore the tricks, tips and techniques of great presenters - and at all times the context will be research presentations.

What we'll cover
Specifically, we’ll help you to:

  • Deliver a message the audience will respond to, and guide an audience through dense and difficult material.
  • Build a rapport with an audience.
  • Show a confident stage presence, project your voice more effectively and deal with nervousness.
  • Use audio visuals effectively and so avoid PowerPointlessness.
  • Handle questions with confidence.

After attending this workshop you will be able to:

  • Understand and be able to use key skills to deliver presentations which have maximum impact and influence on your audience;
  • Increase knowledge of how to prepare your presentation focussing on the audience’s interests and needs;
  • Increase your confidence in giving presentations.

This session is facilitated by Steve Hutchinson.
