Managing the publishing process

What you'll do
This workshop is designed to cover the key steps leading up to the publication of a research paper. It will include group discussions, individual exercises and insights from publishing experience to illustrate key points.

Why attend
Publishing your work and sharing your findings is a key component of a successful research career. A significant time investment is required to successfully publish a paper and several skills are used during the process including collaborative writing, figure design, analysis and concise written communication. With over 30,000 journals to choose from and various aspects to consider, researchers need to take the time to design a publishing strategy will work best for them.

What we'll cover
Academic publishing is currently evolving and there have been several new developments in recent years. Participants will be introduced to the editorial process, time frames, how to choose the appropriate journal, peer review, metrics, legal considerations and how to navigate the scholarly publishing process.


After this workshop participants will have:

  • a clear overview of the publishing process & the timeframes involved;
  • an understanding of open access and copyright in the context of scholarly communications;
  • an understanding of what is required of authors.
