Practical Project Management for Researchers What you'll doThis introduction to Project Management focusses on practical skills, tools and techniques to help you successfully plan and deliver your projects, aligning with standard recognised project management methodologies.Delivered as in-person workshop over two half days. It consists of a mixture of presented material and group exercises based on a simple imaginary project scenario.Who it's forThis session is suitable for staff involved in or leading projects who are not necessarily project managers by trade, and who are looking to gain, review or improve their project management skills and knowledge.No prior knowledge of project management is required. In the first session, you will learn:the different stages of the project lifecycle and the key factors that influence project success;how to give your project a firm foundation for success by clearly defining the ‘why’, ‘what’ and ‘how’ in a Project Brief;to construct a realistic project plan;In the second session, you will learn:how to identify your stakeholders and plan your communications;the importance of defining clear project roles and responsibilities and the use of a RACI matrix;how to avoid/mitigate things that can go wrong using risk management and issue management techniques;the activities that take place during an effective project closure and how these feed into the continuous lessons learned process;Each session builds upon the other, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience. Your participation in both sessions is necessary to grasp the full scope of the material. Post-workThere is no compulsory post-work work required, though a short list of optional additional reading/watching will be supplied for those wishing to further explore the world of project management.
