Research integrity - our commitment

The University of Edinburgh is committed to maintaining the highest standards of research integrity in all aspects of its research and has adopted the UKK Concordat, and the UKRIO Code of Practice for Research.

Research integrity is about conducting our research to the highest standards throughout the lifecycle, in a way that allows others to have confidence and trust in the research; the rigour of the methods used and the accuracy of the findings. It relates not only to the scientific integrity of conducted research, but also to the professional conduct of the researchers.

Everyone involved in research has a responsibility in ensuring high standards of integrity throughout the research lifecycle, from the design of a project, to collection and analysis of data, though to the publication of results.

Our commitment

The University of Edinburgh is committed to maintaining the highest standards of research integrity in all aspects of its research. Our reputation as an elite research-led institution is built on the high quality of research conducted by our staff and students. To maintain this reputation and the trust in the research we produce, we expect all staff, students and researchers to uphold the highest standards of scholarly and scientific research integrity.

The Universities UK Concordat

The Concordat seeks to ensure that research produced by or in collaboration with the UK research community is underpinned by the highest standards of rigour and integrity. The University of Edinburgh has adopted the Concordat as the foundation of our commitment to good practice in research.

The Concordat’s five commitments are:
