If you are currently a staff member at the University of Edinburgh please refer to our demand management guidance on SharePoint below:View BA Global Professorship 2024 internal demand managed guidance for UoE (EASE login required) Scheme OutlineThe British Academy’s Global Professorships are large investigator-led awards to attract internationally recognised established scholars to work in the United Kingdom, to undertake high-risk, curiosity-driven research in the humanities and social sciences. The Global Professorships are expected to add significant value to the UK host institutions and vice versa, and thus the projects must be significant, leading to novel and innovative collaborations.Awards are expected to run for four years each from a starting date to be agreed with the British Academy. Global Professorships are expected to commence between 26 March 2025 and 30 September 2025 and the Academy will provide up to £900,000 per award.Read the call information and eligibility criteria on the British Academy websiteRead the Scheme Guidance on the British Academy website University of Edinburgh Internal selection processInstitutions are restricted to nominate a maximum of four applicants, and depending on the number of applicants, internal demand management may be required. TimelineDeadline for nomination to UoE internal selection process: 11:00, 16 September 2024Successful candidates notified if they are successful in internal process: by 30 September 2024Deadline for submission to British Academy: 16:00, 23 October 2024 Secure support of your host School or InstituteOnly applicants with the backing of a host University of Edinburgh School or Institute will be eligible for the internal selection process. As a first step please contact your relevant University of Edinburgh School/Institute Research Office to secure the support of the Head of School. Find your School or Institute Research Office or contact cahss.cro@ed.ac.uk Nomination ProcessNominations must be submitted by the relevant Head of School to confirm support for the nomination. Nominations must be sent to CAHSS Research and Engagement Office, cahss.cro@ed.ac.uk by Monday 16 September 2024, 11am. Each nomination should include:Research Proposal comprising a Proposed Programme (1500 words) and Plan of Action (800 words). The proposal must:clearly specify the programme of activities (research, teaching, etc.) to be conducted during the course of the award, andshow its relation to the research goals and strategies of the UK host institution.Please refer to and follow the BA Scheme Guidance for the Research Proposal section.CV (It is not required to follow the British Academy’s Scheme Guidance at this internal stage; applicants can submit an up to date CV in any format.) Internal Selection CriteriaIf there are more than four nominations, a College-level internal selection panel will be convened and assess the proposals against the following criteria:The excellent research track record and/or promise of the applicant;The quality, ambition and originality of the proposed research vision and programme, with the aim to support state-of-the-art applications that break new ground;The distinct research contribution and added value that the applicant will be able to make to the UK host institution, and the suitability of the UK host institution for the applicant’s research project that enables the award-holders and their UK host institutions to achieve a step change in their respective research programmes.Successful applicants will be notified by 30 September and will then work their host School Research Office and Edinburgh Research Office to prepare a full application for submission by 23 October 2024.
