Information on Supplements to funding and extending a project Supplements This is when the funder provides supplementary funding for an existing project but the duration of the project remains as originally awarded. Supplements should be costed within Worktribe to show how the additional funds will be spent and approved in the same way as an initial award of funding. Extensions Extensions to the duration of a project must be discussed with your department prior to contacting the funder. Requests for an extension should be made in writing to the funder before the end date of the project. Check individual Funder Terms and Conditions for earliest and latest dates extensions maybe requested. No Cost Extension This is when the funder extends the end date of a project but no additional funding is provided. The PI must inform Research Grants when the funder confirms a no-cost extension. The remaining budget may need to be re-profiled to link to planned activity for extension. The position of staff employed from the grant must be checked to ensure there are sufficient funds to extend their contracts in line with the new project end date. Cost Extension This is when the funder extends the end date of a project and provides additional funding for the extended period. The additional funding should be costed within Worktribe in a supplement to the award and indicated how the additional funds will be spent and allocated to the correct budget categories. Written confirmation from the funder of an extended end date must be forwarded to your Research Grants Administrator who will update the project records and Worktribe. Check how extensions will affect dates on project reporting and deliverables. Project milestones can be amended on Worktribe to reflect this also. This article was published on 2024-01-24
